CLICK PICTURE FOR COMMENTARY:
“Despite knowing that both sides have major flaws in their arguments and actions over the past few years, both sides continue to double down, just as Americans are trying to ride a double dip of a sluggish economy.”

AMERICAN URBAN RADIO NETWORK (October 17, 2013) –  “Sometimes the height of hypocrisy comes when the chosen purport a sense of arrogance with their actions out of a self-absorbed sense of nobility.

“What do I mean?

“Look no further than the political landscape and the stalemate coming out of Washington, DC.

“Again.

“America finds itself at the brink of default and in the crosshairs of economic winds of change globally because the two sides of our political system cannot admit to the errors of their ways.

“Despite the on-going self-repeal of the Affordable Care Act, the growing opposition to this legislation from former political allies, the still-weak economy, and the failures during the rollout of Obamacare so far, the Obama Administration refuses to consider delaying one of the most controversial, misunderstood, and partisan bills ever passed in American history.

“…despite the congressional numbers, poll numbers, election losses, and national viewpoint on our brand, some within the Republican Party have decided to hunker down and continue the fight against Obamacare. In the process, they have – far too often -given the image of opposing the president because of the man that he is versus just opposing his politics and policies. Now, for the third time in as many years, the Republicans are in a political fight where their ultimate objective is apparently unattainable at this time, the opportunity for methodical wins are overlooked during the process, and everyday Americans have continued struggling in the meanwhile.”

“…Maybe the Tea Party, Ted Cruz, and the majority of Americans have some good points about Obamacare…From delays of implementations for certain employers to the rousing opposition from the unions – President Obama’s political buddies during campaign season – there are plenty of signs that the self-repeal of the Affordable Care Act should be continued with a total delay for all Americans…Especially when you consider that only roughly 50% of the components of this law are on-schedule with implementation…”

AMERICAN URBAN RADIO NETWORK (September 25, 2013–  “There’s an old expression that says that it can be tough being caught between a rock and a hard place.

“Well, is there an expression that explains the tough spot our nation is in since we’re caught between a hopeless filibuster, a bad law, and poor leadership?

“Ted Cruz’s Obamacare filibuster brought to the American people courtesy of the Tea Party Movement and Dr. Seuss’ “Green Eggs and Ham” may seem like another ridiculous notion by a conservative movement intent on stopping the history-making legislation that was passed in 2010 and confirmed as legal by the Supreme Court in 2012.

“It would be nice if the political alternative to this hard place by the hard right would be a rock of stability and success. Instead, what we have been getting are rocky times and a rocky record on consistency.

“From delays of implementations for certain employers to the rousing opposition from the unions – President Obama’s political buddies during campaign season – there are plenty of signs that the self-repeal of the Affordable Care Act should be continued with a total delay for all Americans.

“Especially when you consider that only roughly 50% of the components of this law are on-schedule with implementation.

“Especially when you consider that employers are already cutting hours for employees in order to avoid paying for health care costs starting in 2014, leaving desperate families fighting through the economic malaise of the Obama – Recovery – with fewer wages and fewer opportunities for full-time work available.

“Especially when you consider that it was passed exclusively by only one party in Washington – a party that was banished to the political sidelines in the mid-term elections just a few months afterwards.

“And when you consider that the inconsistencies of granted exemptions, of implementation delays, of rising premiums, and limited health care choices are not just limited to Obamacare….

“…when you consider the ‘accidental diplomacy’ with the Syria Civil War  that made a former KGB operative look like a peacemaker and a Nobel Peace Prize winner look like a warmonger….when you consider that this Obama Recovery boasts of a record amount of Americans leaving the workforce, depressed that jobs on Main Street are not returning like the profits on Wall Street have…

“Put that all together – and you have not just rocky times for American politics, but also a rocky road of shaky leadership from this president and Congress.”

“…The core purpose of the Tea Party Movement is smaller government for the sake of liberty and prosperity for all Americans. However, somewhere along the unraveling of political events…the conservative movement lost its way and often became symbolic for…extremism…Lost in the mix of all this was a simple but profound message: A government by the people that has power to intimidate the people through unmitigated power is indeed a dangerous government…”

“That crazy movement called the Tea Party got a little dose of sanity – and credibility – this week.

“And what about critics of the Tea Party Movement and their rhetoric of oppressive big government? Well, it seems that they got a bitter dose of reality.

“The core purpose of the Tea Party Movement is smaller government for the sake of liberty and prosperity for all Americans. However, somewhere along the unraveling of political events since the election of President Obama, the conservative movement lost its way and often became symbolic for racism, political nastiness, and partisan extremism. Lost in the mix of all this was a simple but profound message:

“A government by the people that has power to override the will of the people is indeed a dangerous government.

“The conservative movement was extremely critical of Obamacare…(it) opposed unconstitutional czars and 100% taxation to address unprecedented financial bailouts and bonuses…(it) questioned changing stories about overseas terrorist attacks and domestic near-misses.

“People complained, saying this gave government way too much power, even if the intention appeared, on the surface, admirable. The same argument was made at the local level over soda pop limits… and transvaginal exam(s)…

“A government by the people that has power to bully the people – even for its intended “own good” – is indeed a dangerous government.

“At what point will more Americans understand the ramifications of a government that deems itself capable of dictating to you what to buy, how much of it you can buy, and what it can do to your body in the most intimate of life moments?”

“…there’s a Charm Offensive that we all must hope works over these next few days. It’s the one going on in the Middle East…” Lenny McAllister talks about the importance of the Obama/Netanyahu meetings in Israel this week on this version of “The McAllister Minute”

“Remember the recent ‘Charm Offensive’ that President Obama started with Republican leaders in an attempt to win them over? Some Republicans saw it as a first step, but they certainly didn’t seem to be swooned over by the president’s advances – despite free lunches and a promise for a call back.

“How about the annual 3-day ‘Charm Offensive’ that is known as CPAC? Conservatives see it as a step in the right direction to win elections, but they certainly didn’t seem to swoon any new voters quite yet – despite rousing speeches and a breakout panel discussion where slavery was called free room and board.

“Yet, there’s a Charm Offensive that we all must hope works over these next few days. It’s the one going on in the Middle East.

“With the increased nuclear capabilities of the Iranians despite sanctions by the West, Obama and Netanyahu must completely erase the image that the two are not lockstep in ensuring both Israel’s safety in the Middle East, but also peace throughout a region that could easily spark World War III. With the increased trade discrepancies and cyber-attacks coming from the Chinese, the Americans need a united front with its allies as we continue to combat a nation that refuses to play by the same rules of peace while we attempt to avoid economic and military wars.”

“If we continue down this path – one where Inaugural Addresses now sound more like they were written to swing voters in October instead of to a nation in need of healing at the beginning of a new year – we can only expect to hear more excuses and complaints from both the White House and Capitol Hill as we continue to get less done for the sake of you and me.”

“If the Inauguration of President Barack Obama this past Monday was any indication of the direction of the second term of the Obama Administration, then we are looking at more of the same, leaving the days of hope and change long behind us.

“The president was supposed to give a speech that gave the views of a visionary statesman, not the talking points of a victorious politician.

“Aren’t we finally tired of the back-and-forth of politicians using their multiple bully pulpits to beat their political opponents over the head, all while the American people continue to deal with reports of languishing employment numbers and depressing outlooks for the future? The appearance of political power in America – from both sides of the aisle at times – has been hallow and devoid of any inspirational ability to move decision-makers from gamesmanship to statesmanship.

“Someone has to change that toxic reality – and do so starting in 2013. This has to change, America, and it changes starting with voicing our demands for better results for our elected leaders. It is time to demand accountability for action and results, not rhetoric.”

Who won the fiscal cliff showdown in Washington? Or, is it a question of if we all lost during the process? Find out in the latest version of The McAllister Minute

AMERICAN URBAN RADIO NETWORK (Across America) (January 2, 2013)

“Let’s be clear about what just happened with the fiscal cliff deal passed over New Year’s weekend by the Senate and House of Representatives.

“No one won – and everyone lost, starting with you.

“Sure, there will be people that will do their best to spin the negotiations politically to say that President Obama and the Democrats won the negotiations or that the Republicans were able to make their points known and accounted for, even though they were the losers in this past election cycle.

“But, do you feel like anyone really won through all of this?

“For example, the Bush tax cuts that President Obama campaigned against in 2008 – then signed into law in 2010 – then campaigned against again in 2012….were just – again – extended by the president. This time, the threshold of $250,000 that the election-night victor noted repeated was now pushed up to almost twice that limit. The estate tax went up marginally as well, instead of the larger increase that the Democrats were looking for.

“Just the same, do the Republicans have much to hang their hats on? Proclaiming a victory on fending off a tax hike on Americans making less than $450,000 annually comes off as hollow when considering that the payroll tax will go up on all Americans in 2013. Of course, that doesn’t matter as much as the primary tea party issue: the national debt. As long as fiscal compromise in Washington starts with legislation that increases the national debt by trillions, Republicans should be hanging their heads in shame, not hanging their hats on an accomplishment.”

“…And, by the way: one other mandate: Black voters still matter – a lot. For all of the Republicans’ focus on Latinos and the Democrats’ focus on marriage equality laws, it was the Black voter turnout that shocked pundits across the nation…”

AMERICAN URBAN RADIO NETWORK (November 14, 2012)

“People will come around and tell you that there was a mandate given as a result of (the) re-election of President Barack Obama.

“Well, they would be right – and wrong.

“There were a LOT of mandates given at the ballot box throughout America…”

“One mandate told the American people that personal connection meant a little more than economic and political apathy…another mandate told the Democrats in Washington: find a way to make a deal work with the fiscally-conservative Republicans controlling the House of Representatives before we all fall off of the fiscal cliff.  Yet another mandate told the Republican Party: it’s time to back to the future if you’re going to lead in this diverse nation. Go back to a time when Republicans were ahead of the social curve on issues of justice, such as abolition, women’s suffrage, civil rights, and fiscal reform…

“And, by the way: one other mandate: Black voters still matter – a lot. For all of the Republicans’ focus on Latinos and the Democrats’ focus on marriage equality laws, it was the Black voter turnout that shocked pundits across the nation.

“Democrats: Black America can still deliver when it’s time to vote in politicians, but when that is over, Black America demands that those politicians act as leaders when in office. And Republicans: Black America will demand political accountability from both sides of the political aisle, so if you will compete for votes, Black America will push for positive change in our communities.

“And your mandate, Black America: demand nothing less than results starting in 2013.”
